SeaLight is a consultancy and movement established in the maritime industry, working to create space for women in a traditionally male-dominated field. They needed a brand identity that communicated resilience, determination, and the strength required to navigate that landscape. The challenge was creating something that felt authentic to their mission without relying on tired nautical clichés.
Out of the two concepts presented, this direction stood as my favorite. It wasn't selected, and rather than let it fade, I decided to circle back and bring it to life. The concept explored themes of weathering the storm and emerging stronger, a visual representation of what it means to be resilient in the face of adversity.
The identity draws inspiration from vintage nautical cartography and exploration, suggesting direction, discovery, and the journey forward. It communicates resilience without being heavy-handed, strength without aggression. The mark ties together elements from the sea, hints of a sunrise, and a collective nature.

LOGO
The SeaLight mark was designed to be inspirational, evocative, and empowering. It captures the essence of the brand through layered symbolism. The waves represent adversity, but they're illustrated as separate lines that weave together, suggesting community and connection. Even in turbulence, there's strength in unity.
Above the waves sits a rising sun, representing hope and new possibility. There's something magical about a new dawn after a difficult night at sea, and that sense of emergence became central to the mark. The typography is a vintage Renaissance Era font that brings both elegance and personality, reinforcing that strength doesn't have to feel cold or corporate.

VISUAL LANGUAGE
The color palette draws from natural marine and coastal elements: Sea Green, Sea Foam, Deep Sea, Gilded, Antique, and Pearl. These colors evoke both the rawness of the ocean and the warmth of hope and dawn. There's sophistication in the restraint, with the golds bringing warmth against the cool greens. Typography pairs HV Florentino, a Renaissance Era calligraphic serif with elegance and personality, with Raleway for body text. Florentino brings historical weight and dignity, while Raleway keeps things grounded and readable.
The visual system draws heavily from vintage cartography: longitude and latitude lines, coordinates, nautical stars, and imagery of waves, lighthouses, and the northern lights. Fine grain texture and subtle motion blurring add artistic depth. Throughout, imagery of Kamilia Calko as the movement's leader reinforces the human story at the heart of SeaLight. Together, these elements create a cohesive system that honors both the struggle and the triumph of what SeaLight represents.
